Vintage afternoon teaChampagne and hot dogs. Cocktails and comic books. Vintage wedding dresses and afternoon tea. These all exist as business ventures. The concept of combining two very different but current ideas is becoming increasingly popular, the latter of which I was very excited to experience at Heartfelt Vintage in Bristol.

Situated on one of the side streets off Whiteladies Road, the idea of bridal shop-meets-tearoom works so wonderfully together and stepping into the shop I instantly knew this would be an afternoon tea experience to remember.

I was greeted by the owners, Will and Kate, who met at drama school before opening their vintage business four years ago. Kate certainly looks the part, with her hair pulled together in a vintage bandana and her lipstick pillar box red. We were offered a variety of teas as we sat down in the back of the shop and admired the view.

At Heartfelt Vintage, their unique selling point is not only the cross between bridalwear and tea; they pride themselves on having an entirely homemade menu. As I munched through my scones and jam, Will explained to me that everything is made fresh in-house, from the bread used for the cucumber sandwiches, to the cakes and even the clotted cream.

The couple’s passion for all things vintage certainly shone through, as they sat and told me about all the services they have on offer. Whether your big day is full-on vintage glamour, or you just want to inject some classic into your hen do, the duo will have something perfect for you. They offer vintage hair and beauty packages, flower workshops, circus classes or you can simply hire out their beautiful china tea sets for events. Each package works with local Bristol partners to deliver the best possible experience.

And of course, I have to mention their stunning bridal wear, which is displayed and sold in the shop. The collection is made up of a combination of Kate’s well-trained eye at markets and stalls, as well as vintage sellers making contact directly.

Heartfelt Vintage has a very theatrical feel to it, and I can understand why their afternoon teas are very often sold out to groups of hen parties as well as mothers and daughters enjoying some quality time together.

Will and Kate have only one rule when enjoying their baked goods in the shop.

“Brides aren’t allowed to try on dresses, especially if they already have one on order”, Kate grinned.

“We’ve had too many instances of brides trying on our vintage gowns to find that they prefer them!”

If that doesn’t say it all, I don’t know what does!
