Last week I was lucky enough to be invited to a blogger Safari Club Dinner at Bristol’s shopping centre, Cabot Circus. I visit Cabot almost daily as I work very close – usually because I can’t resist a bargain at Tiger or torturing myself at the latest Oliver Bonas range!

I’ll admit, I always forget that there is a whole section of restaurants on the top floor – from Zizzi’s to Nando’s, Yo Sushi to Giraffe plus many, many more! The purpose of this event was to sample some of the #SummerFoodFest dishes on offer in Cabot Circus, moving restaurants in between courses.

I was slightly nervous as I was only 10 days into my #VeganAugust challenge and eating out is always the most difficult hurdle. However, I was really surprised at the amount of choice I had when it came to cutting out meat and dairy.

We started the evening off at Zizzi’s with prosecco and a sharing mezze platter. I couldn’t have much on the board but happily tucked into the olives and flatbread – I think I could eat a whole jar of olives if I wanted to! I’ve been to Zizzi’s in Cabot before and I find it has a really relaxed atmosphere, a great go to for a date night or pre-cinema meal.

Next up was our main dish at Chimichanga’s next door. I love the décor of this restaurant – lots of bright colours on the walls, with hanging star lampshades and geometric patterns. I ordered the Portobello mushroom fajitas without sour cream or cheese…and it was amazing! I had never thought to use mushrooms as a meat substitute in Mexican dishes – I will definitely be trying this one out at home. I didn’t even miss the dairy as they kindly bought over extra guacamole and salsa. I loved this place so much – I will definitely be back!

Finally, we wandered over to Frankie & Benny’s for dessert – where my choices were understandably more limited! They did have sorbet on the menu, so I chose some mango and lemon scoops which were zingy, lovely and hit the spot after my big meal.

I had such a great time at the Safari Club Dinner! The food was great, the company even better and I want to say a big thank you to Cabot Circus for organising.
